It’s not uncommon to want luscious lips. For those of us with thin lips, we may want something that can help enhance our pout. Lip injections are a common way to help augment lip size, but if you’ve heard of both lip flips and lip fillers, it may be hard to determine which one is the right choice for you. Luckily, it doesn’t have to be!
What is a Lip Filler?
Hyaluronic Acid (HA) fillers can be placed directly into your lips and are designed to add immediate volume. They typically last for 6-12 months, slowly dissolving on its own over time, but every person is different. Duration is impacted by genetics, metabolism and lifestyle. This cosmetic injection helps enhance your lip shape by increasing the size while keeping your lips looking natural. With it being a versatile treatment, you can add as much or as little filler as you want to help you achieve your desired look. Lip fillers are also a great option if you have noticed that your lips are more “wrinkled” to smooth out the folds without changing the shape or size of your lips.
What is a Lip Flip?
Now that you understand lip fillers, let’s discuss lip flips. For a “lip flip”, we place Tox (Botox/Dysport/Xeomin/Daxxify) injections into the muscle just above your upper lip. This results in a slight relaxation of that muscle, which allows the lip to subtly flip upwards, allowing the pink of your lip to show a little bit more. This noninvasive treatment is designed to help enhance the appearance of your lips by giving off a fuller look without any additional volume.
Lip flips are very subtle and wear off in 2 to 3 months. It is often a great option if you are looking for a very subtle enhancement and don’t mind frequent visits to maintain it. The treatment is quick and easy and can be added onto your usual Tox session.
Which One is Right for Me?
At the end of the day, either option may be right for you. Both may even be right for you! Those who want a slightly fuller lip but are not ready for the commitment of a lip filler may be more suited for a lip flip. And those who are looking for a more dramatic and/or long lasting transformation may be more suited for a lip filler.
