How We Help Treat Excessive Sweating

In order to help regulate our body temperature, we sweat. For some, however, they have overactive sweat glands which cause them to sweat more than necessary otherwise known as hyperhidrosis. Hyperhidrosis is caused by overactive nerve signals, which causes excessive sweating. While this can sometimes be limited to only one part of the body (i.e. underarms, hands, feet, etc.), some may experience it all over their body.

For those who have tried and failed with a topical treatment, it may seem as if you’ll be stuck with excessive sweating forever. Luckily for you, there is another treatment that can help: Neuromodulators!

What Are Neuromodulators?

Neuromodulators, such as Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, etc, are neurotoxins that are commonly used for cosmetic purchases, such as softening fine lines and wrinkles on the face, by temporarily immobilizing the muscles. However, neuromodulators can also be an effective treatment to help migraines, muscle spasms, teeth grinding and hyperhidrosis.

How It Works:

Sweating is the natural way our body cools itself off. Those with hyperhidrosis sweat excessively due to an overstimulation of nerve signals on the eccrine glands. With the help of neuromodulators, the nerve signals that cause sweating are blocked in the injection area. In return, you don’t sweat in that area. It can take 2-4 days to start seeing results, and it can take up to 2 weeks for the effects to fully take place. After 2 weeks, most people see an 85% decrease in sweating.

Side Effects

The side effects from Hyperhidrosis Neuromodulator injections are minimal and temporary: pain and/or bruising at the injection area, and possible swelling.

How Long Does It Last?

Most commonly, people will need to receive another dosage every 4-6 months, as neuromodulators are not permanent. However, the more you receive the treatment, the more your body gets used to the effects, and you may be able to go longer between your treatments. For some, results last as long as 12 months.
