Benefits of an IPL (Photofacial) treatment…

Photofacial

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) therapy which is commonly called a Photofacial is a type of laser therapy used to treat wrinkles, pigmentation, redness and much more. IPL (Photofacial) therapy is scientifically proven to work. According to a 10-year study conducted by Stanford University, Photofacials not only repair signs of aging, but help to prevent future signs of aging as well. Researchers found that just 2-3 Photofacial treatments per year can restore the gene expression of aged skin to resemble much younger skin.

How does an PHOTOFACIAL work?

● The light, which is a pulse of light, similarly to a flash, penetrates through to the second layer of the skin, targeting bacteria (helpful for acne) and pigmentation (helpful for dark spots, scarring, etc), without harming the top layer. The light is absorbed by the melanin–damaging only that specific lesion. Then the body naturally removes the damaged tissue (aka your dark spots) leaving behind more beautiful, even skin.

What are some benefits of PHOTOFACIALs?

● Reduce Skin redness and brown spots- If you suffer from rosacea or any other type of skin condition that diffuses redness or brown discoloration into the skin, this procedure is a great solution for reducing the redness on your skin while maintaining a natural complexion.

● Acne Issues – If you (or your teenager) is experiencing severe acne and having difficulty combating the redness and inflammation caused by acne, PHOTOFACIAL treatments can help. PHOTOFACIAL can help eliminate large pores and thus reduce the appearance of acne on your skin without the need to constantly apply topical products that dry out the skin. It should be noted that this treatment is not a complete cure, but your esthetician will provide additional services or products to help keep your acne at bay.

● Minimizes aging signs- While PHOTOFACIAL isn’t necessarily an anti-aging solution, it does have lasting effects in helping reduce the signs of aging such as wrinkles, sunspots and other indicators of aging. By treating a deeper layer of the skin, PHOTOFACIAL stimulates collagen growth and helps improve the skin’s texture, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Can this be done on other parts of your body?

YES, this procedure can also be done around your neck, shoulders, and chest.

When is the best time to do this facial?

PHOTOFACIAL treatments can be done anytime but it is best to avoid unprotected sun exposure for up to a month after treatment. (Really, you should avoid unprotected sun exposure all the time!) Because of that, we recommend it more in the winter than the summer. Late winter/early spring is a great time to get this treatment.

Can this procedure be done with other treatments?

Absolutely! You can complement this procedure with other treatments such as microdermabrasion, chemical peels, and other skin treatments.

How long does this procedure take? Is there any pain?

PHOTOFACIALs usually take 30-40 minutes. Skip your lunch and come on over as there is no down time. With respect to pain, each client varies. Our esthetician will ensure every step is taken to ensure comfort through the procedure.

What if my dermatologist prescribed me in taking Retina-A type product or intense retinol ?

It is recommended that you stop this medication at least 3 days prior to the procedure.

Are there any concerns once the procedure is done ?

While post treatment care is minimal, it is important that you stay out of the sun without a hat and/or sunscreen.
