Recommendations for Facials and Products during Summer…For Your Skin Protection
When it comes to the summer, we think about beach bods, lemonade, and soaking in the sun. We love to be outdoors when it’s nice, but at what cost when it comes to our skin protection? It’s important that when it comes to playing in the sun, we are taking good care of our skin. So what types of products and procedures can be used or done in the summertime?
Hydroquinone:
Hydroquinone is a bleaching agent that is used to lighten dark patches on the skin by inhibiting the melanocytes from producing more pigment. When you use hydroquinone, you want to make sure it is a medical grade. More commonly, you will use it in autumn and winter, but for those who still want to use it in the summer, you can. However, you need to be careful.
When using hydroquinone in the summer, make sure you are limiting the amount you use it, roughly 2-3 times a week. When you do use it, make absolutely sure that you are applying a generous amount of sunscreen to help keep your skin safe and protected.
When picking a sunscreen to coincide with your hydroquinone, remember that an “over the counter” sunscreen’s SPF will be at half of the concentration due to the chemicals added to it. So an SPF 50 will actually be an SPF 25. If you plan to use hydroquinone in the summer, make sure you choose a medical grade sunscreen to get the best protection possible for your skin.
Retinols:
Retinol is derived from vitamin A, it helps to reduce the amount of fine lines and wrinkles developed on the skin through increasing the amount of collagen being produced. Like hydroquinone, you can use retinols in the summertime, however, you must make sure you are being careful. Whenever you decide to use retinols in the summer, make sure you are using a medical grade sunscreen and applying it generously to make sure you are keeping your skin safe and protected.
Chemical Peels:
Chemical peels are absolutely safe to receive in the summertime. When you come in, your esthetician will give you a quick consultation to determine what kind of peel will work best for your skin type and give you the best and safest results possible.
Microdermabrasions:
Just like with chemical peels, microdermabrasions are perfectly safe to receive in the summertime. After consulting with your esthetician, they will determine what is best for your skin type to give you the best and safest results possible.
